The 74th Golden Globe Awards

The City of Stars – provided the perfect frame for the night’s big winner, Damien Chazelle’s "La La Land" which, in a record-breaking sweep, went home with Globes in all the seven categories it had been nominated: best motion picture, musical-comedy; best director and screenplay, Damien Chazelle; best actress, musical-comedy, Emma Stone; best actor, musical-comedy, Ryan Gosling (who visibly blushed when his name was announced, to the delight of audiences near and far); best original song, “City of Stars”, and best original score, Justin Hurwitz.

 Kirk Douglas CUP

Kirk Douglas was born Issur Danielovitch on December 9, 1916, in Amsterdam, New York. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants recently arrived in the United States, looking for a better life. His father Herschel (also known as Harry) worked as a ragman, an occupation immortalized in the title of Kirk’s best-selling 1988 autobiography,The Ragman’s Son. Kirk would later name his independent film production company after his mother, Bryna.

The musical Hamilton earned a record 16 nominations for the 70th Annual Antoinette Perry Awards, topping an historic Broadway season that told a diverse array of stories about women and minorities. Hamilton's total topped previous record-holders The Producers and Billy Elliott, which earned 15 each.

The 88th Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films of 2015 on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California televised live by ABC Network and hosted by Chris Rock. While the show spotlighted Hollywood's diversity problem, the awards were fairly predictable — save a few nice surprises!

The 2016 Oscars have come to an end, with "Spotlight" earning the top prize. "The Revenant's" Alejandro G. Iñárritu won in the directing category for the second year in a row, after taking home the prize last year for "Birdman." Leonardo DiCaprio picked up his first Academy Award in the lead acting category for "The Revenant," while the lead actress trophy went to Brie Larson for her work in "Room." "Mad Max: Fury Road," also a best picture nominee, picked up six awards. The other films nominated for best picture were "The Big Short," "Bridge of Spies," "Brooklyn," "The Martian," "Room" and "Spotlight."  Following is a list of winners and nominees:
