Harvey AftermathHouston, Texas—Thousands of homes near Lake Houston were flooded after Hurricane Harvey struck in late August. Harvey was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. in more than a decade and the wettest on record, displacing more than 30,000 people and causing at least 47 deaths. Preliminary estimates suggest the storm could be the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history, with a price tag of up to $190 billion.

historic photos colorized 1 2

Up until the 1970s, color photography was extremely rare, and so when we think about history prior to that time, we often envision it in black and white. Today’s technology now enables us to “colorize” historical photos, giving us our only chance at seeing what the world really looked like back then. And it was truly spectacular.Take a trip back in time through these photos below. It’s quite incredible to see Abraham Lincoln and Albert Einstein in living color.Seeing these photos in color for the first time makes it easy to imagine we could all have been part of a world that we've never even seen. It literally changes our perspective of history.

  Livingston BW with Camera

Barbara D. Livingston is one of America's most respected horseracing photographers, having photographed the sport she loves for more than 35 years. Livingston was just ten when, in 1971, she first aimed a camera toward the Thoroughbred world. Two years later, she photographed greatness as Secretariat whisked past in a Saratoga workout. By the next year, when she watched Ruffian dominate the 1974 Spinaway, she had decided upon her goal: to record racing history. Ruffian's Spinaway remains the most exciting race Livingston has ever seen. In a sport of raw speed where champions are determined by milliseconds, it's Barbara Livingston's job to freeze time.

These hoary forest sentinels are among the oldest living things on the planet and it is desperately important that we do all in our power to ensure their survival. Let the next generations know the wonder of such trees in life and not only from photograpshs of things long gone. Beth’s portraits will surely inspire many to help those working to save these magnificent trees.

 drag_queen_14

In his Half-Drag series, New York photographer Leland Bobbé captures the two sides of the big apple's drag queens.  The extravagantly made-up drag divas and the organic men that lie beneath. "Through the power of hair and makeup these men are able to completely transform themselves and find their female side while simultaneously showing their male side." Identities of the models are composed in camera and NOT by separate images edited in post production and/or photoshop.
