Benefits of red wine

Headed by Dr. Niva Shapira and Bodo Kuklinski, the team showed that a diet rich in antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids can help protect people from skin cancer by building up resistance to the sun's damaging rays.

This type of diet includes olive oil, fish, colorful fruits and vegetables and red wine and is commonly followed by people of the Mediterranean region, a place where the sun shines brightly, but melanoma rates are particularly low--something along the lines of three cases per 100,000 people.

In this study, the researchers analyzed the blood of two groups of volunteers, all of whom were exposed to the same amount of sun. Those who consumed foods with the most antioxidants had 50 percent less of the chemical in their blood that causes more sun damage.

Drink Red Wine For Cancer Prevention

Foods you Should Eat:

  • Sun-shielding foods contain carotenoids, which are found in the colorful pigment of fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, watermelon, carrots and pumpkin.
  • To go with a Mediterranean diet, you should include olive oil, feta cheese, tomatoes, tomato paste, olives, aubergines, eggs, milk, nuts and red wine.

Foods you should avoid:

  • Foods that can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, and therefore should be avoided or eaten only occasionally, include parsley, celery, dill, cilantro and figs.

Also remember that to prevent sunburn and protect your skin from the sun's damaging UVB and UVA rays is to always use sunscreen with a high protection factor.

So drink red wine, eat plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables and take some fish oil daily. Apply abundant sun block and enjoy your day at the beach!
