While SUVs and pickup trucks were the stars of the show at this year's American Auto Show in Detroit, it's a different story across the pond. Instead of big and bulky, the cars at the Geneva Motor Show generally fall into one of two categories; either small and electric, or ridiculously fast and eye-wateringly expensive. The Swiss show is traditionally a showcase for high-end performance cars with prices that start in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and soar into the millions.
Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg unveiled its all-new 1,578bhp twin-turbo Jesko, which is theoretically capable of reaching speeds over 300 mph, according to company CEO Christian von Koenigsegg. Only 125 will be built, with prices starting at just under $3 million plus local taxes.
Proving that electric cars don't have to be small and cheap is the Pininfarina Battista. With an electric motor powering each wheel, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than two seconds, hitting its top speed of 186 mph within another ten seconds. Around 150 will be made, at a price of about $2.3 million each.
But if you're looking for a really expensive car, you can't beat the Bugatti La Voiture Noire. Speaking at the Geneva show, Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann said the exclusive model with handcrafted carbon fiber body was sold for $18.68 million, taxes included, making it the most expensive new car ever sold.
