Super Moon : May 2012
"It is called a supermoon because this is a very noticeable alignment," Dr. James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, said in a statement accompanying a new video on the topic. "The 'super' in supermoon is really just the appearance of being closer."

For the best view, scientists recommend catching a glimpse of the supermoon at moonrise or moon set when it's on the horizon.

NASA: World is not Ending
NASA is so sure the world will not come to an end on Dec. 21, 2012, that they already released a video for the day after. Despite what the Mayan calendar may seem to say or doomsayers claim, NASA remains 100% confident that the world will not coming to an end in 2012.

NASA: Probe Habitat of Monster Black Hole
A mysterious and intense X-ray source near the black hole shines onto the surface layers of the accretion disk, causing iron atoms to radiate characteristic emission -- what astronomers call the iron K line -- at about 6,000 to 7,000 electron volts. The inner part of the disk is orbiting the black hole so fast that the effects of Einstein's relativity come into play -- most notably, how time slows down close to the black hole.

NASA: Launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 Dragon Capsule
A private company has launched a spacecraft in a bold demonstration test for NASA. The Space Exploration Technologies rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Wednesday morning. The Falcon 9 is carrying a capsule named Dragon. The company, known as SpaceX, hopes to place the capsule in orbit and then bring it back to Earth three hours later. It will be the first time a commercial business tries to recover a spacecraft re-entering from orbit. The plan is for Dragon to circle the world twice, then parachute into the Pacific Ocean, 500 miles off the Mexican coast. NASA is hiring companies like SpaceX to haul supplies to the International Space Station following next year's shuttle retirement. Taxi trips for astronauts may follow.

Descent to Mars
This is a full-resolution version of the NASA Curiosity rover descent to Mars, taken by the MARDI descent imager. As of August 20, all but a dozen 1600x1200 frames have been uploaded from the rover, and those missing were interpolated using thumbnail data. The result was applied a heavy noise reduction, color balance, and sharpening for best visibility. The video plays at 15fps, or 3x realtime. The heat shield impacts in the lower left frame at 0:21, and is shown enlarged at the end of the video.
