Nominations have arrived for the 2020 Tony Awards! Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart announced the nominees live on October 15. As previously announced, the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing have revealed the ceremony will take place digitally this fall. Leading the nominations are the musicals Jagged Little Pill with 15, Moulin Rouge! with 14 and Slave Play with a record-breaking 12 nods—the most ever given to a non-musical. The 74th Annual Tony Awards will recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2019–20 season. Originally scheduled to be held on June 7, 2020 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and televised by CBS, the ceremony was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Schitt’s Creek” broke a record with seven Primetime awards and nine Emmys in total in the comedy categories, and “Succession” took home five awards, including best drama series. Here are other notable moments from the night. Catherine O’Hara won her first acting Emmy for her role as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek.” Tyler Perry accepted the Governors Award, which recognizes “extraordinary” or “cumulative” accomplishment, and gave a heartfelt speech that tied a story about his grandmother to the experiences of Black Americans. Zendaya made history by becoming the youngest winner for best lead actress in a drama for her role in “Euphoria.” Several winners implored viewers to vote. Others made statements about racial justice during speeches and through their wardrobe. Jimmy Kimmel hosted from a nearly empty Staples Center while nominees tuned in from around the world.

Bong Joon Ho brings his singular mastery home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. Universal's 1917 stole the show at the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, winning best drama as well as earning the directing honor for Sam Mendes. Meanwhile, Sony's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood picked up three honors, for best comedy as well as supporting actor for Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino for screenplay. Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a drama for Warner Bros.' Joker, Renée Zellweger claimed best actress in a drama for Roadside Attractions' Judy. Despite its controversial final episodes, HBO's unstoppable Game of Thrones earned 32 Emmy Award nominations, including best drama series — and shattered the record for the most nods for a show in a single season. Close behind were Amazon’s critic-favorite comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 19 nominations, and HBO’s surprise hit Chernobyl with 18. NBC’s Saturday Night Live also walked away with 18, and landed plenty of noms for its celebrity guest hosts, including Sandra Oh, Emma Thompson, Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, John Mulaney and Adam Sandler. FX’s absorbing drama Fosse/Verdon and HBO’s dark comedy Barry tied with 17 each, while Netflix’s When They See Us, Ava DuVernay’s searing miniseries about the Central Park Five, scored 16 nominations.
